Zbigniew Sikora

BIOGRAPHY

Zbigniew Sikora was born in 1985 in Warsaw. In 2010, he graduated from the Department of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, in the studio of Professor Jarosław Modzelewski. He also attended the Alternative Imaging Studio led by Professor Włodzimierz Szymański at the Department of Media Arts and Stage Design and Art in Public Space Studio led by Professor Mirosław Duchowski.

In 2012, he completed postgraduate studies in Computer Graphics and Multimedia at the Academy of Special Education in Warsaw, and in 2019, Postgraduate Studies in Blockchain, Smart Contracts, and Digital Currencies at the Warsaw School of Economics. Since 2009, he has co-created the Artistic Association ”Arts Front” (”Front Sztuki”) and has been active at the Artistic Tenement House TA3 in Warsaw’s Ochota district.

From 2013 to 2014, he served as an assistant to Professor Mirosław Duchowski in the Art in Public Space Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He works at the University of Social Sciences in Warsaw, where since 2018 he has been the head of the Graphics Department and since 2019, the vice-dean of the Department of Applied Sciences. In 2019, he obtained a doctoral degree in art - he carried out and defended his doctoral thesis at the Artistic and Pedagogical Department of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce.

The artist has received numerous awards, including in 2008, a distinction at the Art in Public Space Studio for the development project of the Parad Square (Plac Defilad) in Warsaw. In 2009, he won the 5th edition of the competition organized by Gallery A19, where he created the mural ”Metro Museum” (”Metro Muzeum”) inside one of the Warsaw metro stations. In 2011, he was awarded a scholarship to create a mural promoting the city, granted by the Culture Office of the Capital City of Warsaw, and in 2022, he won first place for NFT in a competition organized by Binance.

Sikora has always been fascinated by urban fabric and new technologies which are ubiquitous in metropolises. Like everything else, new technologies have their pros and cons. The artist believes that thanks to technology life is easier, but at the same time it displaces direct human relationships. It allows for greater surveillance of society, the deprivation of civil liberties, and paradoxically, it enables to escape this control - unrestricted flow of financial resources, lack of state regulations. Recently, alongside traditional techniques, Sikora has begun to use AI as a new tool for creating his works.

In addition to art and new technologies, the artist is interested in sports - he holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
